Instructions for your flower painting
1.Start by printing out your vase template onto white cardstock. Have kids draw in the table line at the bottom and the stems and leaves coming out of the vase.
Start by drawing a stem in the middle, then one on either side. You don't want your stems too long or you will run out of room to stamp your flowers. Draw the leaves on the stems last.
2. Use green acrylic paint and a smaller brush to paint the stems and leaves. I kept this part simple with just one color of green, but kids can always try and blend together two shades of green for the leaves if they like.
3. Use a cork to stamp the centre of the flowers on each stem. Dip the cork into the paint, and press it straight down onto the paper and lift it off.
Remind kids to be careful not to move the cork at all, or it will smudge. You can use a paper towel to wipe off the cork before dipping it in a new color.
4. Choose a color for your flower petals, kids can choose to use the same color for all three flowers or make each flower unique. Stamp on your flower petals to finish off your flowers.
Again, press the cork straight down on your paper and lift straight off to avoid any smudging.
5. While your flowers are drying, you can paint in the table area at the bottom of the paper with any color you like. Let this area dry before moving on to the vase.
6. Decide on a color for the vase and paint it in. Using a smaller brush here makes this easier for kids. Let the vase dry completely.
Paint some simple designs on the vase to finish off your painting. I painted in a couple of stripes, but kids can choose any type of designs they like.
If this is going to be a Mother's Day painting, kids can write in a special message and their name and date.
